Tips for your Best Senior Portraits

If you want to feel extra fancy, look into getting your hair and/or makeup done professionally.
Personally, I’m not the best at doing my own makeup, so anytime I’m looking to get portraits done, I look to book a professional makeup artist or hairstylist to help me feel my best.
Some of my favorite Central Kentucky favorite makeup artists: Sarah Lynn, Kelly Meccariello, Kristin Gray, Bailey Carter, or Brinley White.
For simple curling + styling, I always recommend booking an appointment at DryBar. For something more intricate, check out: GlamLex, KC Hair, or Beheld Studio.

Wear what you feel comfortable in.

When you feel comfortable, you look comfortable. And when you look comfortable, your photos will turn out ten times better! Wear clothes that fit well, work with your body, and make you feel amazing.

Make sure your clothes look good.
Iron out those wrinkles and make sure there are no stains on your selected pieces for your session. Lay out + iron your clothing the night before, and leave them on the hanger until we arrive at the first location for your session. I always bring a pop-up changing stand so my clients can comfortably change outfits during their shoot, no matter the location.

Build in a little extra time for commuting.
If you're traveling to different locations during your shoot, driving from out of town, or are getting hair/makeup done, we will build in an extra 20-30 minute window of time to allow for location changes and outfit changes at each location. This takes stress out of the equation, and does not apply to session time.

Bring snacks/drinks along to your session.
If you feel you might get peckish or thirsty during our time together, we can grab snacks and a drink at a cute fro-yo shop or gas station, or feel free to bring some snacks along with you – I'm all about my seniors feeling their best. Stay hydrated + happy, friends!

Drink plenty of water the day before the shoot.
By hydrating your skin the day before your shoot, your skin will appear clearer, plumper, and your eyes will really pop!

Think about your locations when planning coordinating outfits.
We will work together to establish a style for your overall session at your pre-consultation. You'll want to coordinate outfits that compliment the location and yourself so that the style is consistent with the location you've chosen. We can discuss your options - whether you’re looking for urban, country, outdoorsy, or even a studio location. The possibilities are endless!
